Collecting Pulp Records
Record Shops: Below are some of the UK's best record shops and mail order companies specialising in the buying & selling of music
rarities:
- Esprit International Limited
Esprit probably have the most comprehensive stock of all Pulp rarities, although will certainly charge you for it. They have recently (11/98) brought down the price of many of their Pulp items so there are some bargains to be had. However, if you think about ordering from here, make sure you've checked out the other specialists to see if you can find a lower price. Esprit also operate an E-mail update service notifying you of all new stock.
- Vinyl Tap Records
Based in Leeds, Vinyl Tap often has an average stock of Pulp promos and imports although they are usually at a hefty price.
- Action Records
Good stock although prices can sometimes be variable.
- Music & Video Exchange
The Mecca for all serious record collectors! Prices start high and then gradually fall in units of £1 which is great when you buy something in the shop because by peeling off the successive price stickers, you can see how much the item was originally on sale for. They have all the remix 12", vinyl promos, white labels, promo CDs and CD-Rs. Visiting their chain of shops is preferable to ordering over the web because their turnover of stock
is rapid and it's best to check the condition of the stuff you buy since it is essentially a second hand buy/sell shop. They have most of the promos in stock before they even get to the radio stations! Well worth a visit to the Notting Hill branch of Music Exchange if you can manage it, and it helps if you visit the nearby cash machines to empty your account first!
- Vinyl Exchange
Based in Manchester they offer some very reasonably priced promo and white label vinyl in addition to the odd CD promo or autographed item. It's a pretty good website too which means you can find what you're after really quickly.
- Opal Music
This is a pretty good website and you can easily find what you're after. The prices vary so you'll need to look around, although they do have a
fair bit of interesting stuff so they're definitely worth checking out.
- Key Mail Order
Moderate range of stuff, although little that you can't find from any other shop. Prices seem to be quite reasonable however.
