Disco 2000 UK Millennium Re-issue CD: CIDX 623

Pictured Right

Same tracklisting as UK CD2

» Not strictly a promo, more a re-issued Disco 2000 CD2 adorned with promo stickers. After the band prevented the song from being used in trailers and adverts during 1999, Island understandably wanted to cash-in on the millennium market and so made the CD available once again in December '99. The item is identical to the original issue except for the matrix number on the disc and the photobooklet which isn't printed on smooth glossy paper.

Release Sticker:
Pulp's "Disco 2000" has been repressed... now it's been re-pressed! Not so much a re-release, as a date kept! Pulp have made their end of the century classic available once more. The packaging's the same, there are no new tracks on the B-side, but it's here for a whole new generation to own and cherish. You will be there at 2 'o' clock by the fountain down the road, won't you?

» All tracks recorded live at the Markthalle, Hamburg on 10 December 1995. The only way to distinguish the mispressing from the standard pressing (both have identical sleeves) is to examine the matrix numbers on the inner rear side of the disc. Matrix for the mispressing is 852 671-2 01 whereas the standard pressing matrix is 852 671-2 02 (both pictured right). This is a 3 track CD but with the third track containing two songs (Pencil Skirt & I Spy). Many thanks to Martin & Kev for the information.

» The best thing about this CD - besides the sleeve - is the Alan Tarney remix which is closely modelled on the existing album version and even the same length (4:33). His remix could best be described as a compromise between the radio friendly 7" version and the rawer album version, with the main differences being a few extra guitar pieces, the occasional cymbal smash and some additional drumming.

The film will be screened at the I.C.A. on March 9, afterward the band will play a set. March’s FACE features a 3 page article on PULP.

Release Sticker:
Have we all been waiting for this or wot? A new Pulp single is good news but the better news is that - in my opinion - that it is one of the best singles yet, containing everything that sets this band apart from all others: The soft underbelly leading to monumental soaring surges of chorus, hooks that never quit and lyrics that really say something. The best news of all is that there is an album to come next year and it will not disappoint. The same goes for live dates. Updates when they happen (Commercial CD contains "Tomorrow Never Lies", The track that was too good for the James Bond Film.) - S.P.

» Dated 6 November 2002, this selection of remixes was released to promote the Hits album.

Press Release:
Representing the dark and twisted underbelly of the Pulp œuvre, this selection of remixes takes four Pulp classics and takes them down a dark and dangerous alleyway: the Tipsy mix of 'This Is Hardcore' is a mess of beats and backwards vocals. Fat Truckers give 'Sunrise' something of a downbeat drum 'n' bass makeover whilst Nick Cave's version of 'Disco 2000' is so mournful and heartbroken it will surely have you in tears by the end. Almost as upsetting is the fact that 'Common People' was kept off the No. 1 spot by Robson & Jerome singing 'Unchained Melody'... a tragedy.
